Why so serious?! How to make your work more playful.
Monday Blues. Weekend warriors are re-calibrating their minds with thoughts of deadlines and objectives for the week. I feel old thinking about it. Why so serious?
Research shows that play is the biggest driver of learning and innovation, so whoever decided adults must be serious was really shooting themselves in the foot. When we cease to play we cease to grow. I guess that’s why work can feel like death, especially on a Monday morning. After the ‘Rule Maker’ post, I’ve decided that playfulness is a MUST! No longer will I tolerate worry or expressionless work. Friendly, Fun & Fierce - that’s how I want to work. How do you want to feel this workweek?
Here are some simple ways I’ve made my corporate work more playful and less serious:
Bringing my headphones and listening to fun music
Riding my bike to work, I associate bikes with childhood and it’s so freeing to feel the wind in your face
Using coloured paper to write on, the novelty does something great to the brain
Using colourful markers and even crayons to brainstorm or write to-do lists
Colour blocking, using a colourful highlighter to block out the completed tasks on the to-do list. This visual cue makes my brain dopamine hungry to tick off or block out more tasks.
Wearing coloured or glittery nail polish, flowy dresses, statement jewelry - anything to break the mundane
Play hard.
